Addictions aren’t so bad!

Addiction has such a negative connotation to it.  The word addiction spawns visions of a rubber band tied around someone’s arm while they shoot up unsaid amount of drugs.  Addiction doesn’t have to be so ugly.  Let me explain.

There are many things to which I’m addicted.  Coffee for one, and it’s something I over indulge in.  However, I love it, and it’s not hurting anyone or anything, except maybe the lining of my stomach.  But there are TV shows I find myself addicted to as well.  Since I work a ton of crazy hours and the spouse doesn’t enjoy any of the same shows I do, I find the DVR to be my best friend!

So what shows am I addicted to?  Let’s see . . .

First there is the HBO Series TRUEBLOOD.  For those unfamiliar with the show, it’s based on the Charlaine Harris SOOKIE STACKHOUSE series.  Sookie, the main character is a cute blonde southern girl who just happens to attract all the wrong men.  She has a hot steamy relationship with Bill Compton, a resident vampire, sexual tension with a werewolf, Alcide and in this season is now brewing something up with the very sexy Eric Northman, a vampire who has lost his memory.  The show borders on soft-core porn at times so it’s definitely not family programming, and probably why it’s on HBO.

Then there is Spartacus, a series on Starz.  Based in ancient Rome, Spartacus contains sexy chiseled hard bodied gladiators.  The show is a cross between GLADIATOR and 300.  Ironically, the show also borders on soft-core porn.  The first few seasons starred Andy Whitfield and I was oh so sad to see him leave the show after some health issues.  There is a ton of foul language, sex, sex slaves and the like, so it’s most certainly not family programming either.

Another show I can’t wait to see each week is Drop Dead Diva.  The main character was a skinny blonde model who died in a car accident and came back in an obese lawyer’s body.  It is tongue and cheek silliness with some drama mixed in.  As the overweight lawyer, she’s forced to work side by side with the man who was her model-self’s fiancé.  You can watch this show with others in the room.  😉

While I may be a tomboy, I still enjoy shows like House, Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice, but I don’t wait on the edge of my seat when I’m all alone with the DVR like I do the shows above.

I find myself a bit concerned that 2/3 of the shows I’m addicted to contain large amounts of sex and violence . . . not really certain what that says about me.

So what shows do you find yourself addicted to?  What is it that you like about them?

  1. Haha I fully admit to being addicted to ‘trash’ tv 🙂 . I tend to watch tv while I’m writing, so I watch things like Greys Anatomy, Glee, How I Met Your Mother, The Glee Project, Dollhouse, True Blood, Gossip Girl, Bones … You name it, I’ll watch it 🙂 A lot of the time, it’s a matter of having entertaining ‘noise’ in the background while I write – I find if my entire brain is concentrated on a topic, I won’t write half as well as I do when only half my mind is turned to the task!!!
    C-C xx

  2. Once I originally commented I clicked the -Notify me when new feedback are added- checkbox and now every time a remark is added I get four emails with exactly the same comment. Is there any indicates you possibly can remove me from that service? Thanks! 529337
